Willow Voice does the now-standard thing — hold a key, talk, get cleaned-up text at the cursor — and differentiates on reach and on an offline mode that most of its cloud competitors don't offer at all. It runs on four platforms from one subscription, and on Apple hardware you can switch it to a local model. Whether that offline mode counts as a privacy guarantee depends on how much you trust a setting to stay set.

Four platforms, one subscription. Mac, Windows, iPhone, and Android. Most tools at this price cover two. The iOS keyboard is the more polished of the two mobile builds.
Tone matching per app. Output adapts to context — looser in Slack, formal in Gmail, technical in Cursor — rather than one register everywhere.
An actual offline mode. Optional local processing on Mac and iOS. Rare among cloud-first dictation apps, and useful on a plane.
The free tier isn't a word quota. Unlimited dictation on the smaller Frontier Mini model, with the paid tier gating the better model rather than the volume. That's a more honest free tier than a 1,000-word trial.
Whisper mode. Handles quiet speech in shared spaces, which is a small thing that matters in an open-plan office.
Where it falls short
Offline is opt-in, not default. A teammate on a fresh install gets cloud processing and won't necessarily notice. If your requirement is that audio never leaves the device, a toggle isn't the same as a guarantee.
Privacy is a Business-tier feature. Zero data retention, enforced privacy mode, and enforced HIPAA all start at $35/user/month. On Free and Pro your audio goes to Willow's servers with normal retention.
HIPAA marketing outpaces the documentation. HIPAA appears on the pricing page, but the published privacy policy doesn't spell out its scope or document the offline mode. Get the specifics in writing before relying on it clinically.
No offline on Windows or Android. The local model is Apple-only, so the platform breadth and the privacy story don't overlap.
Latency claims are vendor figures. The 200ms and "3x more accurate than built-in dictation" numbers are Willow's own.
Pricing
Free gives unlimited dictation on Frontier Mini plus 20 uses a week of Scribe, the rewriting pass. Pro at $15/month, or $12 billed annually, switches you to Frontier Pro, adds priority transcription, writing-style memory, unlimited Scribe, and longer dictations. Business at $35/month ($28 annual) is where enforced zero-retention, SOC 2, HIPAA, and admin controls live. Enterprise adds SSO/SAML, API access, and invoicing.
Who it's for
People who dictate across a laptop and a phone and don't want two subscriptions — particularly on mixed Mac/Windows/Android setups where Wispr Flow's advantage narrows. The free tier is worth trying precisely because it isn't time-limited. If privacy is the driver rather than reach, the Apple-only offline toggle is weaker than what superwhisper or VoiceInk do by default.
