Alongside it sits Dragon Copilot — formerly DAX Copilot, launched March 2025 — which does ambient scribing from the patient conversation rather than dictation.

Medical vocabulary is the differentiator. Drug names, anatomical terms, and specialty-specific language recognised out of the box. A general dictation tool will mangle all of it, and correcting drug names is not a small risk.
Deep EHR integration. Dictate directly into the chart rather than into a scratchpad and paste. This is what clinicians are actually paying for.
Longer terms cut the price meaningfully. $99 down to $79 a month across a three-year commitment.
It's where the investment is. Nuance discontinued Dragon for Mac, Dragon Home, and Dragon Anywhere. Healthcare is the surviving line, so this product has a future the consumer ones don't.
Mature and widely deployed. Established in health systems, with the support and procurement path that implies.
Where it falls short
The implementation fee is real and often overlooked. About $525 per new user on top of the subscription. For a ten-clinician practice that's $5,250 before anyone dictates anything.
Expensive against the ambient scribes. $99/month for dictation, when Freed does ambient scribing at $79/month. Dictation and scribing are different jobs, but the price comparison is unflattering.
Windows-centric. No meaningful Mac story, consistent with the rest of the Dragon line.
It's dictation, not ambient AI. You dictate a note. It doesn't listen to the visit and write it for you — that's Dragon Copilot, at a considerably higher price.
No self-serve path. Purchase runs through Microsoft healthcare sales or a reseller, with contract terms and negotiation. Solo practitioners will find the alternatives easier to buy.
